Mariann Kovacs

Doctoral Scientist

Mariann received her BA in Psychology at the University of Pécs, Hungary and completed her MSc in Cognitive and Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Maastricht, the Netherlands. Mariann completed her PhD at the ARC in 2020.

In her PhD, she studied the social, educational and personal vulnerabilities of young people with special education needs as they transition to adulthood. She particularly focused on whether autistic teenagers are at elevated risk of ending up in the category the UK Government calls NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training).

Her PhD was funded by the Cambridge Trust, supervised by Dr Sarah Griffiths, Dr Carrie Allison and Professor Simon Baron-Cohen.

Before her PhD Mariann worked as an assistant psychologist in the field of neuropsychology and prior to that as a laboratory intern, testing candidate drugs that could aid myelin regeneration following white matter injury.
